Medal commemorating the tercentenary of the deliverance of Briel. Obverse: Small bust of William I, Prince of Orange, in a ruff (front) within a wreath. Legend: (outer line) 'TER HERINNERING AAN HET DERDE EEUWFEEST 1 APRIL 1872 HET DANKBARE NAGESLACHT' (To commemorate the third centenary 1 April 1872. From a grateful posterity); (inner line) 'WILLEM I PRINS VAN ORANJE GRONDLEGGER ONZER VRYHEID' (William I Prince of Orange the founder of our liberty). Reverse: A woman, standing, a flag in her left hand and her left foot upon the shield of Spain, placing a wreath upon a trophy of the arms of Briel and of the staff and cap of Liberty decorated with a ribbon. Legend: 'GRONDVESTING VAN NEERLANDS ONAFHANKELIJKHEID' (Foundation of the Independence of the Netherlands). Inscribed on flag 'MET GOD VOOR EN VADERLAND ORANJE' (With God for the Fatherland and [House of] Orange). On ribbon, 'LIBERTATIS PRIMITIAE'.
