Medal commemorating the Spanish Mediterranean squadron. Obverse: Head of King Amadeo I of Spain (right). Legend: 'AMADEO PRIMERO REY DE ESPAÑA' (Amadeus the First, King of Spain). Reverse: Three-masted steam men-of-war at sea. Legend: 'A LA ESCURADRA DEL MEDITERRÁNEO.' (To the Mediterranean Squadron). This refers to the king's escort from Italy. Exergue: '26 DI DICIEMBRE 1870.'
