Medal commemorating the victories over the Turks in Morea, 1687. Obverse: A fortified town besieged by land and sea. Legend: 'VOTA URBIS ET ORBIS.' (The vows of the city and the world.) Reverse: (Inscription in 12 lines): 'MOREA PLATANI FOLIO SIMILIS . IAM LAURU PALMISQ . ORNAT VENETUM LEONEM : PATRASSO . LEPANTO . VALIDISSIMIS URBIBUS . ET DUOBUS CASTRIS DARDENELLI XXIV . HORARUM SPATIO . QUAE SAECULI GESTA VIDEANTUR A TURCIS RECEPTIS D. 14/24 ET 15/25 IUL . M . DC . LXXXVII.' (Morea, like the leaf of a plane tree, thus decorates the Venetian lion with laurel and with palms. Patras and Lepanto, most strong cities, and two forts of the Dardanelles having been captured from the Turks within twenty-four hours on 14/24 and 15/25 July 1687. May these deeds be famous for ever!). Inscription (on edge): 'REGNIS DOMINANTUR ET UNDIS.' (They rule kingdoms and seas.)
