Medal commemorating British victories, 1704. Obverse: Bust of Queen Anne draped (left), hair bound with fillet, lovelocks behind and on right shoulder, in gown fastened with brooch at front. Legend: 'ANNA . D . G . MAG . BR . FR . ET . ET . HIB . REGINA.' Reverse: Neptune presenting a trident and naval crown to Britannia, seated, with shield and spear (right), a trophy inscribed (left) 'GERMANIA SERVAT . GALLIS BIS VICT' (Germany preserved, the French twice defeated), winged Victory with wreath overhead. Legend: 'MARIS IMPERIVM ASSERT. PORTV GIBRALTAR CAPTO CLASSE GALL . FVGATA.' (The empire of the sea has been asserted by the capture of Gibraltar and the defeat of the French fleet.) Exergue: 'VIRTVS ANGLORVM VICTRIX PERPETVA. 1704.'
