Medal commemorating the Battle of the Texel and the death of Maarten Harpertzoon Tromp, 1653. Obverse: Bust of Admiral Tromp in a low collar doublet and order (three-quarter right). Legend: 'MART . HARP . TROMP . R . L . AD . V . HOL . ZE . WES.' (Martin Harpertzoon Tromp, Knight, Lieutenant-Admiral of Holland, Zealand and West Friesland.) Reverse: Port-quarter view of two vessels in action, others in distance. Legend: 'Tromp driemaal in dit Jaar verlaten is in noot. Syn ronde goedighert was oorzaak van syn doot. den 10 Augusti, 1653.' (Three times was Tromp forsaken in the hour of need this year. His open-heartedness was the cause of his death.) The obverse of this medal is cast in high relief; on the reverse the ships are engraved.
