Medal commemorating the wreck of Hudson Bay Company steamer 'Beaver', 1892. Obverse: SS 'Beaver' on the rocks. Legend: 'WRECK H.B. COS. S. S. BEAVER, VANCOUVER B.C. 1892'. Exergue: 'BUILT 1835'. Reverse. Legend: 'THIS COPPER WAS TAKEN FROM THE'. Inscription: 'WRECK OF H.B.COS. S. S. BEAVER THE FIRST STEAMER ON THE PACIFIC ALSO'. Legend: 'CROSSED THE ATLANTIC IN 1835. The number '10742' on the edge. Suspended from a light blue ribbon with burgundy edges. From 1962 to 1998 as a result of private sponsorship, these medals were presented to veterans of the Royal Canadian Navy and Merchant Marine for outstanding service and from 1998 to citizans in Peachland, British Columbia for services to the community (information, Michael Henderson). With the medal came one authenticity certificate and seven photocopied pages of paper cuttings and articles relating to the history of SS Beaver, the wreck and the significance of the medals.
