Medal commemorating the Battle of Dogger Bank, 1781. Obverse: Winged and draped figure of Victory standing on the prow of a Roman vessel, inscribed 'DOGGERS BANK' holding a wreath in her outstretched hand. Legend: 'PAX QVAERITVR BELLO.' (Peace is sought by war). On right: 'V . AVG . MDCC LXXXI'. Reverse: Inscription within a laurel wreath: 'EXIMIAE VIRTUTIS PRAEMIVM.' (The reward for extraordinary valour.) Legend: 'MVNIFICENTIA PRINCIPIS AVRIACI.' (By the munificence of the Prince of Orange). Fitted with a ring. A war medal worn with an orange-coloured ribbon with a white stripe in the centre. The gold medal was presented to admirals and officers of higher command.
