Medal commemorating the Black Sea Fleet founded, 1696. Obverse: Bust of Czar Peter I laureate, in armour and cloak (right). Legend: 'PETRVS . ALEXII . FILIVS . D . G . TZAR . ET . MAGNVS . DVX . TOTIVS . RVSSIAE.' (Peter, the son of Alexis, by the grace of God, Tzar and Grand Duke of all the Russias.) Reverse: Russia draped and murally crowned standing on a quay (right) welcoming Neptune crowned, standing in a car drawn by sea horses; ships in the distance. Legend: 'FACTA . PVTA . QVAECVNQVE . IVBES . OVID'. (Count done whate'er thou biddest.) Exergue: 'PRIMORDIA . RUSSICAE CLASSIS . CICICCXCVI.' (The beginning of the Russian fleet, 1696.) A copy of the original.
