Prize medal, Society of Arts and Commerce

Silver medal awarded to Commander Henry Downes, RN (1790-1852), for his invention, in 1837 of an annular scupper for ship's decks.
Obverse: 'Conjoined heads of Mercury, in a cap and Pallas Athene, in a helmet (Left). Legend: 'ARTS AND SCIENCE PROMOTED'. Reverse: Legend: 'TO COMMANDER H. DOWNES R.N. MDCCCXLIV'.
