Counter commemorating Admiral Duc d'Anville wrecked off the Azores, 1746. Obverse: Youthful bust of Admiral Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, Duc de Penthièvre (1725-1793) (right). Legend: 'L . J . M . DE BOURBON D . DE PENTHIEVRE AMIRAL DE FR.' Reverse: A ship's compass. Legend: 'DUBIIS SECUNDIS QUE REBUS RECTA.' Exergue: 'MARINE 1747.' The loss of d'Anville's squadron was compensated for by M. La Bourdonnais victory at Negapatam in the same year.
