Medal commemorating the Spanish defeated at Messina, 1675. Obverse: Head of King Louis XIV in a long wig (right) with a small curl in front. Similar to preceding but the curl larger. Legend: 'LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS.' Reverse: Victory in flight holding a wreath and a sheaf of corn in either hand approaching Messina; view of the town and bay below with ships. Legend: 'ALIMENTA MESSANAE.' (The revictualling of Messina.) Exergue: 'HISPAN AD FRETUM SICVL . DEVICTIS . M . DC . LXXV .' (The defeat of the Spaniards in the straits of Sicily, 1675.)
