Medal commemorating the recapture of Cayenne, 1676. Obverse: Head of King Louis XIV in a long wig (right) with a small curl in front. Similar to preceding, but from a slightly different die. Legend: 'LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS.' Reverse: Neptune sitting in his four-horsed chariot with the French flag in his left hand, brandishing his trident over a fortress on the island. Legend: 'BATAVIS CAESIS.' (The Dutch defeated.) Exergue: 'CAYANA RECUPERATA . M . DC . LXXVI .' (Cayenne recaptured, 1676.)
