Medal commemorating the Tripoli pirates defeated at Chios, 1681. Obverse: Head of King Louis XIV in a long wig with curls on the neck (right). Legend: 'LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS.' Reverse: A winged Victory in a helmet, a beflagged spear in her right hand and a palm branch in her left, standing in front of an antique galley, a shield (left), a pirate, prostrated, at her feet (right). Legend: 'DE PIRATIS TURCA SPECTANTE.' (Defeat of pirates in the presence of the Turkish fleet.) Exergue: 'AD INS . CHIO . M . DC . LXXXI .' (At the Island of Chios, 1681.)
