Medal commemorating the expedition to Brest, 1694. Obverse: Bust of King Louis XIV in a full wig, laureate (right), in low cut armour with Medusa's head on the breast. Legend: 'LVDOVICVS . MAGNVS . REX . CHRISTIANISSIMVS.' Reverse: The goddess Pallas Athene with a spear and Medusa's shield standing on the beach, a naval trophy (left), shipping and wreckage with figures clinging to them in distance (right). Legend: 'CVSTOS ORAE AREMORICAE.' (Guardian of the shores of Brittany.) Exergue: 'ANGL . ET . BAT . CAESIS ET . FVGATIS 1694.' (English and Dutch beaten and driven off, 1694.)
