Medal commemorating the capture of Cartagena, 1697. Obverse: Head of King Louis XIV (right). Legend: 'LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS.' Reverse: A mural crowned female figure seated at the foot of a palm tree, her right hand resting on an overturned vase whence coins are issuing. Legend: 'HISPANORUM THESAURI DIREPTI.' (The treasures of Spain plundered.) Exergue: 'CARTHAGO AMERICANA VI CAPTA . M . DC . XCVII .' (Carthage in America taken by storm, 1697.)
