Medal commemorating the capture of Barcelona, Ath and Cartagena, 1697. Obverse: Head of King Louis XIV in a long wig (right) with a small curl in front. Legend: 'LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS.' Reverse: A winged Victory, a palm in her left hand, inscribing three shields hung on a palm tree. Legend: 'VICTORIA COMES FRANCORUM.' (Victory the friend of France.) Shields inscribed: (left) 'AD BARCINONEM HISPANI'; (centre) 'AD ATHAM FLANDRIAE'; (right) 'AD CARTHAGINEM NOVI ORBIS.' Exergue: 'MDCXCVII'.
