Reverse: Inscription, with the names of the commander and other admiralty officials, 'S.A.R. MGR. LE DAUPHIN, AMIRAL DE FRANCE MR. LE CTE. CHABROL DE CROUZOL, PAIR DE FRANCE, MINISTRE DE LA MARINE MR. DUMONT D'URVILLE, CAPITAINE DE FRÉGATE, COMT. L'EXPÉDITION 1826'. Legend: 'VOYAGE DE DÉCOUVERTES DE LA CORVETTE L'ASTROLABE.' This corvette, commanded by M. (later Admiral) d'Urville, was sent on an exploring expedition to the South Seas and discovered the remains of the two French vessels lost in 1788.
