Medal commemorating the bombardment of Mogador, 1844. Obverse: Bust of Admiral François Ferdinand d'Orleans, Prince de Joinville (1818-1900) in uniform (right). Legend: 'FR . PH . L . M . FERD . D'ORLÉANS PRINCE DE JOINVILLE.' Reverse: Inscription, in twelve lines, 'LA FLOTTE FRANÇAISE ATTAQUE MOGADOR LE 15 AOUT 1844. ELLE ÉCRASE LA VILLE ET SES BATTERIES ET PREND POSSESSION DE L'ILE ET DU PORT. S . A . R . LE PRINCE DE JOINVILLE, COMMANDANT L'EXPÉDITION.' (The French fleet attacked Mogador 15 August 1844, bombarded the town and its batteries and took possession of the island and the harbour.)
