Obverse: A female figure wreathed and veiled, a palm branch in her left hand, standing at a pedestal altar offering incense, a tree (left). Legend: 'MORT POUR LA PATRIE'. Exergue: 'GUERRE DE 1870-1871'. Reverse: Inscription, within a circular cable, 'MORT DU LIEUTENANT DE VAISSEAU EDGARD SAISSET FILS UNIQUE DU VICE AMIRAL SAISSET LE 17 9BRE 1870 AU BOMBT DU FORT DE MONTROUGE.' (Death of Naval Lieutenant Edgard Saisset, only son of Admiral Saisset, the 17 September 1870 at the bombardment of the fort of Montrouge.)
