Naval reward medal, 1588. Obverse: Bust of Queen Elizabeth, her hair dressed high and adorned with pearls, in a large ruff, jewels and embroidered dress (left). Legend: 'ELIZABETH . D . G . ANGLIE . F . ET . HI . REG.' Reverse: The ark resting on waves; the rays of the sun above, issuing from clouds. Legend: 'SEVAS : TRANQVILLA : PER . VNDAS'. (Tranquil amid violent waves.) Fitted with a scroll and loop. An eighteenth century copy.
