Obverse: An anchor encircled by a waving rope; hanging from the beam the arms of St George's cross for England and a harp for Ireland. Legend: 'MERUISTI'. (Thou has merited.)
Reverse: Stern view of a ship engaging two frigates, one on either side; four others in the distance. Legend, in two lines: 'SERVICE . DON . AGAINST . SIX . SHIPS JULY . Y. XXXI . & AVGVST . Y . I . 1650.' Captain Robert Wyard of the 'Adventure', escorting a convoy from Hull to London and Rotterdam beat off six Irish frigates in an engagement lasting from 10 p.m. 31 July until noon the next day. The medal was struck by order of Parliament and presented to Wyard, his officers and crew. The value of the awards varied from £50.00 to 5s.
