Jug
Jug, transfer-printed with a profile of Samuel Plimsoll (1824-98) on one side, and on the other a print of ‘The Sailor's Return’, all on a red ground, with a decorative border.
Both transfers are in scrolled cartouches, with roses, thistles and shamrock, an anchor and, at the top, the American stars and stripes, and British Union flag, wrongly coloured with a white St George's cross. The Plimsoll side is inscribed ‘Plimsoll Sailors' Friend’ and the other side, which shows a sailor embracing his lass, is inscribed ‘The Sailors Return’.
