Published in Strasbourg. The map was made for Martin Waldseemuller edition of Ptolemy's Geographia (copy at PBC3994). In this volume, it is explained that the map shows a geography made known "through the most authentic voyages of a former Admiral of the most serene King of Portugal, Ferdinand, and those of other explorers", and as a result this map is sometimes known as "The Admiral's Map".
