Obverse: Two half-length figures: Vernon facing three-quarter left, baton in left hand, right extended in front of Commodore Charles Brown, who faces right, with baton in right hand. Tops of batons nearly meeting. No line enclosing legend. Legend: '.OF . ADMIRAL . VERNON . AND . COMMODORE . BROWN .' Exergue: 'BY . THE . COURAGE . AND . CONDUCT'. Reverse: View of the port. Six ships, placed one, two, three; three sailing to right, three left. Five boats in a row inside, and boat with flag outside. Tower pointing to letter I, spire after X. No line enclosing legend. Legend: 'PORTO . BELLO . WAS . TAKEN . WITH . SIX . SHIPS . ONLY . NOV . 22 . 1739'. Exergue: 'I . W . FECIT'. Pearl boarder.
