A View of Greenwich Park on Whitsun-Monday [from the 'European Magazine']

Engraving. An etched view of the Park and Royal Observatory on the Whit-Monday holiday, with the usual high-jinks going on – ‘punters’, pedlars organ-grinder, brawlers, drinkers, dancers, pic-nickers, floozies, 'tumblers' on the hill, the odd lady and gent (one with a peg-leg, possibly an officer of Greenwich Hospital) and boys climbing trees. According to the inscriptions it was published in the 'European Magazine' on 1 June 1802, a journal which occasionally did such views though portraits of 'notables' were its more frequent illustration if those of naval officers in the NMM holding are indicative.
