Obverse: Full length figure of Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757) (right), sword in right hand, baton in extended left. Fort right, below baton; below it inscribed 'FORT CHAGRE'. Line enclosing legend. Below, between extremities of legend, a convex shell with elaborate leaf ornament on either side. Field stippled. Legend: 'THE . BRITISH . GLORY . REVIV . D . BY . ADMIRAL . VERNON .' Reverse: View of the port. Six ships, placed two and four, all sailing left. Tower and two steeples pointing right of letter O, W and left of T; flagstaff pointing between O and B, and at S in 'SIX'. Line enclosing legend. Legend: 'WHO . TOOK . PORTO . BELLO . WITH . SIX . SHIPS . ONLY .' Exergue: 'NOV . 22 . 1739 .' Leaf ornament below with crossed stems.
