Outside it, a large ship sailing to the left, and four small ships sailing to the right. Four ships within the harbour. Trees on both sides. Town in background showing large buildings with three steeples. Line enclosing legend. Legend: 'AD . VERNON . GENL . OGLE . TOOK . CARTHAGENA . BY . SEA . AND . LAND'. Exergue: 'APL : I : 174 : I'. Vernon bombarded Cartagena in 1740 and an unsuccessful attempt was made to capture the city in April 1741.
