Medal commemorating Vernon's attack on Cartagena, 1741. Obverse: Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757) facing left, face in profile, a baton in right hand, standing on a platform, gun (left), ship (right). Legend: 'THE . BRITISH . GLORY . REVIV.D . BY . ADMIRAL . VERNON'. Ns reversed. Line enclosing legend. Reverse: Attack on Cartagena, two ships inside the harbour bombarding the town, troops ashore with a gun ashore also firing. Legend: 'WHO TOOK CARTAGENA'. Exergue: 'APRIL (sic) 1741' (on a band). Vernon bombarded Cartagena in 1740 and an unsuccessful attempt was made to capture the city in April 1741.
