Medal commemorating Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757), Admiral Sir Chaloner Ogle (1681?-1750) and General Thomas Wentworth, the attack on Cartagena, 1741. Obverse: Three full-length figures - Vernon in centre, full face, wearing a hat, baton in right hand. Ogle (left) and Wentworth (right) on either side, facing inwards in profile. Wentworth holds a spear in his right hand. There are two small lions between the figures. No legend. Exergue: 'BRAVE VERNON: OGLE & WENTWORTH'. Reverse: Close-up view of Cartagena harbour and forts; a ship in the foreground. Legend: 'VERNON: CONQUER.D: (sic) CARTAGENA.' Exergue: Large scroll at water line 'APRIL 1.1741' below. Vernon bombarded Cartagena in 1740 and an unsuccessful attempt was made to capture the city in April 1741.
