Medal commemorating Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757), Admiral Sir Chaloner Ogle (1681?-1750) and General Thomas Wentworth, the attack on Cartagena, 1741. Obverse: Three figures standing, Vernon in centre; each holds a baton. Above, Fame holding three wreaths, blows a trumpet. Ship (right). Banner with lion rampant (left). Line enclosing legend. Legend: ': AD . VERNON . AD . OGLE . AND . GEN . WENTWORTH .' Reverse: A harbour, three ships within it bombarding a town; four ships outside; soldiers and two cannon on a point of land. Legend (within line): 'WHO TOOK CARTHAGENA'. Exergue, (between two lines): 'APRILL 1741'. Vernon bombarded Cartagena in 1740 and an unsuccessful attempt was made to capture the city in April 1741.
