Medal commemorating Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757), Admiral Sir Chaloner Ogle (1681?-1750) and General Thomas Wentworth, the attack on Cartagena, 1741. Obverse: Three full-length figures, standing on a solid platform, hatched. Vernon in centre, three-quarter left, wearing hat, baton in left hand. Ogle (left), facing right, bareheaded. Wentworth (right) full face, in armour and plumed helmet, legs crossed, leaning on spear. Cannon (right). Two small lions (right and left). No line enclosing legend. Legend: 'BRAVE : ADM . L : VERNON : OGLE & . WINTWORTH'. Exergue (below scroll): 'I . GILES'. Reverse: View of a port. Six ships sailing right, one above, five below. Two forts right, on either side of a narrow entrance. Legend: ': WHO : CONQUERD : CARTHAGENA'. Exergue: (Below leaf ornament stretching across): 'APRIL I . 1741'. Vernon bombarded Cartagena in 1740 and an unsuccessful attempt was made to capture the city in April 1741.
