Gun, 32pdr
Iron muzzleloading smoothbore 32-pdr gun mounted on wooden seaservice carriage (replica made in 1988) Marks: 1859 W.Co (Samuel Walker, Rotherham, gunfounders to the Board of Ordnance). These must have been among the last of their type to be cast for the Navy. They were the standard lower deck guns carried on First rates and many of the Second and Third rates of the fleet at the time of Queen Victoria's accession in 1837. They were still in use as middle deck armament during the Crimean War (1854–56) and indeed are similar to HMS VICTORY's lower deck guns at Trafalgar in 1805.
