Unidentified elderly Inuit woman
A portrait photograph of an elderly Inuit woman seated on a chair looking at the camera. The backdrop may be a sail and there is evidence of paper masking on the emulsion. She seems to be wearing fine traditional clothing. This woman also features in image G4270.
It is not known where the sitter was photographed. The Phoenix visited four settlements along the west coast of Greenland: Holsteinborg, Godhavn, Proven, and Upernarvick between 8 June and 21 July 1854.
