Rocky escarpment, Greenland
A view of a rocky escarpment or outcrop with pockets of snow at an unidentified location. The photograph may possibly show coal seams - Inglefield spent several days looking for sources of coal and taking samples and sent a report to the Admiralty about brief experiments conducted onboard.
'The Times' reported on 5 October 1854 that Captain Inglefield had discovered a coal mine on the Waygat side of the Island of Disco, from which 80 tons of coal were taken on board, free of expense.
