Medal commemorating Bagur and Palamos, 1810

Medal commemorating Bagur and Palamos, 1810. Obverse: The crowned shields of Spain and Great Britain placed side by side, surrounded by their respective flags. Below: 'ALIANZA ETERNA.' The whole surrounded by a laurel wreath. Reverse: Inscription, 'BAGÚR 10 de Setiembre 1810' 'PALAMÓS 14 de Setiembre 1810'. Legend (enclosed by circle): 'GRATITUD DE ESPAÑA A LA INTREPIDEZ BRITANICA.' On clasp 'BAGUR 10 de Setiembre Palamós 14 de Setiembre 1810'. Fitted with a ring, and suspended from a yellow ribbon with a red edge. These medals were awarded by the Spanish Government - eight in gold to senior officers and the rest in silver to the men of HMS 'Cambrian' for their assistance to Spanish forces in destroying a French battery at Bagur and attacking the town of Palamos. This is not to be confused with the British attack on a French convoy in Palamos harbour undertaken on the 13th December 1810.
