Medal commemorating the Nelson monument at Birmingham. Obverse: A representation of a monument - a full-length figure of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson 1758-1805) on a pedestal. The monument at the base is surrounded by iron railings. Legend: 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY.' Exergue: 'BIRMINGHAM'. Reverse: Britannia seated (left), by the seashore, armed, Union shield and lion at her side, spear in left hand, right hand hides her face in grief. Distant view of the Battle of Trafalgar. Legend: (outer) 'HE FINISHED A COURSE OF GLORY IN THE (inner) ARMS OF VICTORY.' Exergue: 'OCTR . 21 . 1805.'
