Vulcan (1819)

Scale 1:24. A plan showing the sheer lines, longitudinal half-breadth and half-plan view of the Vulcan (1819), a canal packet. The plan has been signed 'James Watson, Airdree' and is dated 1948. The full heading reads 'Drawn from information taken from the transactions of the Scottish Shipbuilders Association Session 1864-65'.

This barge was used for ferrying passengers on the Forth and Clyde Canal. Designed by Sir John Robinson of Edinburgh, it was built by Thomas Wilson (1781–1873) of Faskine and launched on 14 May 1819. It was regarded as a pioneer in the early use of riveting iron plates for shipbuilding.
