Medal commemorating the French expedition to Ireland 1796-1797 and the Irish Friendly Association. Obverse: Two vessels in a rough sea, one partially dismasted (left), the other heeling dangerously (right), another in the distance. Legend: 'AFFLAVIT DEUS ET DISSIPANTUR'. Exergue: 'JAN MDCCXCVII'. Reverse: Within a circlet of leaves a crown and inscription. Legend: 'FRIENDLY ASSOCIATION'. Inscription: 'BANTRY GARRISON'. NB: Presented for defence of their post against the landing of the French fleet, which was wrecked in a storm.
