Box
Box made by ship's carpenter R. R. Grant, and presented to Dr Edward Hillis Marshall D.S.O., T.D. surgeon on 'Discovery's' 1925-27 voyage. An oblong box with a removable lid, a small location dowel on one side. The edges of lid are slightly rounded off. A pencil note on paper inside reads: 'With Chippy's Complements. Made from the wood of the Discovery.'
Mrs Marshall: 'The ship's carpenter made delightful little boxes from the wood of the ship, when it was repaired. Most of the officer's had one.'
