Medalet commemorating HMS 'Natal'. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of the ship. Legend: 'PRESENTED TO H. M. S. NATAL.' Exergue: '1915'. Reverse: Shield of the colony between two oak branches. Legend: 'FROM THE PEOPLE OF NATAL'. Inscription round edge is illegible. Fitted with a loop.
The medal was distributed to the crew before the ship was destroyed in an internal explosion on 30 December 1915. It was paid for by the canteen committee from the residue of the comforts fund provided by the citizens of Natal. Each medal has the recipient's name engraved on the edge.
