Trial piece, Naval Engineers medal
A trial piece. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of a two-masted paddle-steamer. Exergue: Ornamental head of a trident between oak branches. Reverse: Royal Crown over a foul anchor. Legend: 'FOR ABILITY & GOOD CONDUCT.' The whole within rope border. The space outside the border was used for engraving the recipient's name and ship.
