Medal commemorating HMS 'Good Hope' and the Rt. Hon. Joseph Chamberlain (1836-1914). Obverse: Full face bust of Mr. Chamberlain in morning dress. Legend: 'THE RIGHT HON. J. CHAMBERLAIN. M.P.' Reverse: Peace, clasping the dove to her breast, stretches her hand towards the sun of 'UNITY' rising over the sea, on which is steaming HMS 'Good Hope'. On a ribbon (left): 'GOOD HOPE.' On an ornamental cartouche below the inscription (incuse): 'I GO TO S. AFRICA WITH THE MOST EARNEST DESIRE TO BRING TOGETHER THE PEOPLE INTO ONE GREAT AFRICAN NATION UNDER THE BRITISH FLAG.' Legend (above): 'SOUTH AFRICA 1903'.
