Medal commemorating Admiral Cornelis Tromp (1629-1691). Obverse: Figure of Admiral Tromp facing, with long hair in armour and cravat, standing on deck, a baton in his right hand, a table and globe (left), taffrail and distant ships behind. Legend: 'CORNELIS TROMP'. Reverse: A masthead, flag flying surmounted by a broom; sail furled; the whole enriched with the coats of arms of Holland (left) of the admiral (centre) and of Amsterdam (right) distant view of the fleet under sail. Inscription: '9 . SEPT . 1629 29 MEI . 1691'. Legend: 'BEROOFT VAN STERKTE EN TROTSE VLAG . HET MAGTIG ZEEKASTEEL VAN SPRAG.' (The mighty sea-castle has been deprived of its strength and its proud flag.)
