Medal commemorating the combined action in the Java Sea 1942-52. Obverse: The forward part of a cruiser sinking, overwhelmed by a gigantic wave; the sea in distance. Legend: 'HERDENKING SLAG IN DE JAVAZEE 1942 - 1952.' Reverse: Port broadside view of a cruiser under way, with a background of four flags with their staffs- two British ensigns, the stars and stripes and the Dutch ensign. Legend: 'COMBINED STRIKING FORCE 27 FEBRUARI, 1942, N . O . I.' Inscription, below on the sea: 'ALL SHIPS FOLLOW ME.'
