Sledge plate

Sledge plate. Two metal plaques in a glazed oak frame each inscribed: 'INVINCIBLE from Captain & Officers of H.M.S. Invincible 1910.' and 'INVINCIBLE II from the Ship's Company of HMS Invincible 1910.' A typescript framed with the plates reads: 'Two sledges were presented in 1910 to the 'Terra Nova' by the officers and ship's company of HMS 'Invincible' and were used by Captain Scott's party in the Antarctic expedition. These plates were taken from the sledges and returned to England with the effects of Dr Wilson who perished with Captain Scott on the return from the Pole and were presented to 'Invincible' by Dr Wilson's widow in December 1913.'
