Lapel badge of the International Congress of the History of the Discoveries, Lisbon, 1960. Square badge mounted on a rectangular base pierced for a member's name (D.W. Waters). A blue lateen sail bearing two sets of stars; top, the Plough; bottom, the Southern Cross. In the top right corner the arms of Prince Henry, in the top left the masthead pennant in white bearing a Latin cross superimposed on a scarlet Maltese cross. The whole surrounded by an inscription in Portuguese of the name of the Congress 'congresso : internacional : de : historia : dos : descobrimentos MCCCCL MDCCCCL' interspersed with the same double cross as is on the pennant.
