Medal commemorating the fourth centenary of the discovery of America, 1892. Obverse: Bust of Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) (three-quarters left), wearing open coat over low-necked shirt, on a circular medallion inscribed, 'CHRISTOFORO COLOMBO', which is supported by a draped woman holding long laurel branches (right), and a partly draped Indian woman holding a long palm branch (left). They clasp hands over top of medallion on which rests a globe. Eagle with outstretched wings below. Reverse: Winged and partly draped woman in the air, surrounded by Cupids bearing torch, cornucopiae and caduceus. Indians crouch on the ground below. Radiating sun rising (left) over distant shore. Border formed of shields and stars alternately. On this a label above with 'MDCCCXCII' and another below, 'MDCCCCXCII'.
