Medal commemorating the fourth centenary of the discovery of America, 1892. Obverse: Bust of Christopher Columbus (1451-1506), (three-quarters left), wearing open coat over low-necked shirt. Legend: 'RECUERDO DE LAS FIESTAS COLOMBIANA MONTEVIDEO 10 - 14 OCTOBRE 1892.' (Token of the festivities of Columbus. Montevideo. 10-14 October 1892.) Inner: 'CHRISTÓBAL COLON.' Reverse: Winged and partly draped woman in the air, surrounded by Cupids bearing torch, cornucopiae and caduceus. Indians crouch on the ground below. Radiating sun rising (left) over distant shore. Border formed of shields and stars alternately. Legend: 'MDCCCXC MCCCCXCII.'
