Legend: 'PEDRO ALVARES CABRAL DESCOBRIDOR DO BRAZIL.' (P.A. Cabral, discoverer of Brazil.) Reverse: The arms of Brazil, with the year above each; (left) as Portuguese Colony, 1816; (right) as Empire, 1822; (centre) as Republic, 1889. Above on a ribbon: 'AO POVO LUSO-BRAZILIEIRO.'
