Medal commemorating the Battle of Jutland, 1916
Iron medal commemorating the Battle of Jutland, 1916, the major fleet action of the war, and von Hipper as the commander of the German battle-cruiser squadron there. Both sides claimed victory but although the British Grand Fleet lost twice as many ships and men as the Germans it maintained strategic dominance in the North Sea.
